My Artist Post

The artist that I decided to explore is Richard Artschwager. Richard is exploring real life objects and betraying their identity as artistic illusions. He also makes furniture. Then he went on to exploring the idea of abstract and geometric shapes. He also explored painting black and white paintings of black and white photographs, like of modern buildings. As he got more advanced and more complex things started getting more mysterious and involving flickering light and stuff. The things that he seems to be interested in or the central focus of his work seems to be in the involvment of the illusion and the observation of each sculpture.

Influencing his work in part was the many years he worked at a furniture factory. Also his memories of a New Mexico landscape affected the things he painted. Richard Artschwager is a 20th century artist, but the pop art movement and the minimalist movement sure are involved in the creating of his movement the most. This is because he uses everyday objects to create most of his work shows that he is involved with the Pop Art movement and the block-likeness of some of his sculptures shows that he is involved with the Minimalist movement. Even though he was involved in the Minimalist movement he was mainly involved in the Pop Art movement. Richard is also involved with the Op Art movement, as well, because it deals with illusions and that is what he deals with as well. He also deals with Photo Realism a little bit in his artwork to, but it is not as much as the Pop Art and Minimalism movement, too. Richard Artschwager is not associated with any other artist, but he did study under Amedée Ozenfant.
